Since May 10th, 50 brave souls have been gathering at the Joy of Sharing Community Center to provide free grocery bags and freshly cooked vegetarian meals to support the surrounding communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This food distribution drive, organized by the Joy of Sharing Foundation (JOSF) and Gujarati Society of Southern California (GSSC), kicked off on May 10th and will run through every Sunday through September. We plan to continue serving cooked meals on Sundays past that.

The grocery bags contain a combination of essentials such as rice, a variation of beans, pasta, fruits and vegetables, oil, salt, sugar, and oats.

Since May 10th, the drive has distributed more than 8,000 grocery bags and 45,000 meals serving 45,900 individuals as part of COVID-19 support efforts.

The meals have been distributed to the homeless and disadvantaged population on Skidrow, Compton, the Women’s Center, and Venice Beach.

During the winter months, we additionally donated blankets, beanies, gloves, and socks.
