Grocery and Hot Food Drive

Since May 10th, 50 brave souls have been gathering at the Joy of Sharing Community Center to provide free grocery bags and freshly cooked vegetarian meals to support the surrounding communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This food distribution drive, organized by the Joy of Sharing Foundation (JOSF) and Gujarati Society of Southern California (GSSC), kicked off on May 10th and will run through every Sunday through September. We plan to continue serving cooked meals on Sundays past that.

The grocery bags contain a combination of essentials such as rice, a variation of beans, pasta, fruits and vegetables, oil, salt, sugar, and oats. Since May 10th, the drive has distributed more than 8,700 grocery bags, 50,000 meals served, 615 throws and blankets, 500 beanies, 500 gloves and 100 tarps serving 46,640 individuals as part of COVID-19 support efforts. The meals have been distributed to the homeless and disadvantaged population on Skidrow, Compton, the Women’s Center, and Venice Beach.

During the winter months, we additionally donated blankets, beanies, gloves, and socks.

Karina's Backpack Project

Joy of Sharing Foundation is helping support Karina's Backpack Project - an annual community-based event that offers elementary and middle school students supplies, resources and services for a successful school year.

We believe in the future of our youth and want to encourage them to succeed in their new school year! Kids & families come on the day of the event to receive their backpacks, enjoy activities, food, live entertainment, haircuts, groceries for families and more!

Soul Force Project

Mission: The Soul Force Project is a vehicle for inspiring creative leadership and teams of change-makers through global music, education, and multimedia arts. We empower young leaders to form small teams to strengthen our capacity for resilience in our local communities and work for creative sustainable solutions that align with the global movements of climate change action. Dynamic art, music and mentoring serve to attract new audiences and inspire creative action towards positive system change.

Each month we feature ‘Soul Force Icons’, women and men who model nonviolent changemaking from around the world on issues such as racial justice, indigenous rights, environmental justice and peacemaking. Cutting across political boundaries and borders our events empower people of all ages to serve and take steps of courageous selfless action.

Programming: Soul Force produces accessible events of traditional and genre bending world music that promotes the joy and relevance of nonviolent action. Every Soul Force concert is themed, relating stories which focus on the extraordinary capacities of the human heart to fight for dignity, environmental justice, and a inter-dependent sustainable future on the planet. The music is supported by arresting speakers and activists, visual art and compelling videos that highlight diverse women and men (soul force icons) and powerful ideas that model a tenacious commitment to nonviolent change-making.
